The Black Eyed Peas (BEP) have had a tremendous chart run for an unprecedented 26 consecutive weeks this year, and hit No.1 for the first time on the albums chart with "The E.N.D." and with the two singles "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling". Since their album "Elephunk" in 2003, the group's hip hop/dance-oriented style has sold an estimated 20 million albums worldwide and 13 million singles. The biggest aspect of their success this year is not simply good, danceable music, but the ethereal aspect of it. The hip hop group is back and smash launched a CGI-filled (unembeddable) video for "Meet Me Halfway," the third official single from their awesome latest 5th studio album "The E.N.D.".
Entertainment Weekly writes that "When the group's glitchy future-funk beats, plagiarized shamelessly from Novaspace's 2002 hit single Time After Time sync up with Fergie's unabashedly feminine melodies, as on the sweetly insidious "Meet Me Halfway", they find pure Top 40 nirvana. Prefix magazine also gave the song a positive review, stating, "Meet Me Halfway" is notable mostly for being better than a new-wave-y ballad by the Black Eyed Peas has any right to be.
The music video was directed by Ben Mor (director of "I Gotta Feeling"), and was released onto the iTunes Music store on October 13. The video features the four members of the Hip-hop group being separated in different places and going on a quest to find each other. Stacy Ferguson aka Fergie rolling around in a pretty risque nude dress in some sort of jungle, while Taboo is an astronaut flying in the outer space near the sun. Apl takes out a map and will.i.am uses a compass to search for a path to the other members. All the members use the gateway, turn into shooting stars, and land on the planet, with the road in the middle of the desert. The "Meet Me Halfway" video is reminiscent of "Lord of the Rings", with its animal and earth themes, but the effects and galactic setting are more "I Am Legend".
