Lady Gaga seeks sweet revenge in "G.U.Y."

Lady Gaga has just unveiled the 'opulent' music video on NBC immediately before news magazine show Dateline's Saturday Night Mystery for her third "ARTPOP" gender-bending single "G.U.Y.," an acronym for "Girl Under You." The 27-year-old pop star has no problem attaching art to music and she's not showing signs of stopping anytime soon with her new big-budget 12-minute "G.U.Y." video, which sees Gaga lying on a 'vintage' chaise-longue on the middle of a pool, performing a choreography in a golden bikini, wearing a huge head-piece, or singing the Zedd-produced EDM banger next to a harpist.
Gaga revealed to Stylist that she wrote this tune as a "new-age feminist" and explained that the track deals with embracing the female image. "Any kind of feminist has valid views for herself about what it means to be a feminist, but, as a new-age feminist, I would say I quite like the transference of strength I feel by submitting to a man - being under him," she said. "I actually wrote a song about it on my album, it's called 'GUY' and it stands for 'Girl Under You.' So wearing make-up, smelling delicious and having suckable, kissable, edible things between your limbs is something I find strengthening because I know that when I pick the right guy, I can let him have it."
The over-the-top visuals, directed by Gaga herself, were shot over six days at California’s famed Hearst Castle, which has not allowed anyone to film there since the 1960 movie "Spartacus." Gaga insists that her whole thing is "not an act," which she has said before. It's her method of expression, which she claims she'd be doing now even if she were still performing in dives on the Lower East Side. "It's interesting because in this video, the fashion and the psychotic sort of whimsy is all happening around me and it's me almost like Alice in Wonderland going through my own rabbit hole in my brain and re-experiencing the past year of my life," explained Gaga.
The clip opens with Gaga playing the role of a fallen angel face down in the ground, suited-up extras grabbing for money around her before abandoning her while "Artpop" plays. She later stumbles through a dusty terrain, collapsing at the gates of a large castle before she's placed in a pool of water, "Venus" now the soundtrack. She reemerges in a skimpy white outfit as the song everyone came for, "G.U.Y." begins. Once she reaches her Valhalla, Gaga and co. unleash a series of dance moves across the castle, both in water and out of it, while seemingly plotting her revenge against the executives grabbing for money in the opening shot. Eventually, she travels to their offices, where she has her revenge of sorts.

Lady Gaga sings of living for her fans' "Applause"

Lady Gaga finally revealed the much-anticipated music video for her new single, "Applause," the lead single off the button-pushing pop star's upcoming new album "ARTPOP," which will be released on November 11. The video, Gaga's first in two years, is the kind of uniquely Gaga video, full of eye-popping imagery and layered with meaning and the images flash with the rhythms, each a visual love letter to the woman at the center of her new video for "Applause."
The 27-year-old singer stopped by Good Morning America on Monday to premiere the video and participate in her first television interview in a long time. "I'm so excited to see you at the premiere of my video at Good Morning America in 5 hours!" she shared on her Facebook page the previous night. "I am grateful to share this new experience with you! I've thought of you fans every moment since the last BTW Ball, & dreamt everyday how I could make it up to you. Only with your happiness comes mine."
"Applesauce" was written and produced by Gaga with DJ White Shadow while on the road for The Born This Way Ball Tour in 2012. Built on choppy synths, "Applause," an unsurprising electro-pop sugar cube, takes fans back to The Fame as Gaga sings about how she survives on the adoration of her fans. Gaga sings on the song of living for her fans' applause - the way they cheer and scream for her. "In my heart of hearts as I was writing, I knew that if I asked [the fans] to cheer for me before I sang or if I alluded to the fact that they would cheer for me before I sang," said Gaga to Women's Wear Daily.
The video includes shots taken in both color and black-and-white, including artistic and complex scenes such as Gaga's head on a swan, a scene in a bird cage, and the singer seated in a large top hat, as well as more simplistic scenes including Gaga walking in a black outfit wearing a headscarf, and the singer using white cloth, with scenes similar to the cover art of the single, featuring Gaga in bright make-up. Throughout the video bursts of color are shown theatrically, and at the end, the name of her album "ARTPOP" is spelled using hand gestures. Watch as Gaga dances and prances through an arty set of poses, including playing a seaborn Eve with strategically placed seashells and seaweed.

Lady GaGa Strips Down In "Marry The Night"

Lady Gaga has a reputation to uphold, so when she releases a self-directed 14-minute autobiographical video she really has to bring the crazy. "Marry The Night" doesn't disappoint! The opus features the 25-year-old pop star at her most gloriously provocative, with extended dance sequences, explosions, nudity, and a violent attack on a box of Honey Nut Cheerios. While the clip is an homage to her pre-fame roots, the song is also a tribute to the Big Apple.
As the fifth single from her latest album "Born This Way," "Marry the Night" is a dance-pop song influenced by house and electropop. The electro-thumping number with euphoric synths and uplifting melody was inspired by the energy of Gaga's previous song "Dance in the Dark" and features electronic church bells, a driving electro organ sound and a funk-rock influenced breakdown. The lyrics are about Gaga's love of the night and partying, while serving as a homage to her hometown, New York City.
"'Marry the Night' is about marrying your obstacles and the challenges that you face to become great or to live your dreams," Gaga gave more detail about her favorite song on the album, "It's about committing yourself wholeheartedly to the thing you're most passionate about. For me, it was always music. It's about that moment when I decided I was going to tear it up, that I was going to get married to my work, and that my work would be my husband forever. There was no fire and no rain that could get in the way."
Gaga is nothing if not a storyteller. And this particular musical yarn may be her best yet. At the very least, it's her most personal. "Put 'Born This Way' back in the vessel, for rebirth, as I lay in mine. When too strong to divorce, then buckle up, MARRY THE NIGHT." Intense though the video is, it isn't without its levity. "I always believe that you walk the line of humor if you're being so incredibly serious," she explained. "There's something quite comical about the opening of the video, even though it's quite sinister and dark." And that the video itself serves as a window into the heart and mind of Gaga.

Lady Gaga Makes Out With Herself In "Yoü and I"

Lady Gaga doesn’t go by the rules, especially when it comes to video premieres. The videos from the sold-a-million-in-a-week "Born This Way" have fallen somewhere in between, but her latest "Yoü and I," which just premiered on Perez Hilton even though it was supposed to be unveiled on MTV on Thursday night, might finally be the epic that everybody has been waiting for this time around. The thrilling storyline would be about the "torture" of being away from the one you love, feels like the strongest and most striking of any of the clips from "Born This Way."
The album's thirteenth track and fourth single, "Yoü and I," is a rock and roll ballad with tendencies of rock music and country music, and samples "We Will Rock You" (1977) by British rock band Queen. The moderato-tempo song also features Brian May on the electric guitar. On her Twitter, the New York star described "Yoü and I" as a "new song... written in NY on the piano I grew up on." Gaga described the song to her audience as a bit of a "rock-and-roll tune." She went on to say that it will probably never be used as one of her singles, but the song is very dear to her heart.
The song finds Gaga singing about a passionate love affair with a "Nebraska guy" whilst the lyric sheet features umlauts over every letter "u." The 25-year-old revealed in an interview with US Weekly that she finds it hard to perform this track as it is about her relationship with her on-and-off boyfriend, Luc Carl. The tune is about getting back together with a former love and Gaga penned the tune after getting back together with Carl, having previously split up with him. However, the singer broke up with him again shortly before the release of "Born This Way" and she admitted that she now gets upset when singing the tune.
The "I would walk 500 miles" theme video was shot in Springfield, Nebraska, finds the Mother Monster tapping into her various alter-egos, from male "greaser" counterpart Jo Calderone to Yuyi the Mermaid. Gaga explained the video's concept: "The premise of the video is that I've walked all the way from New York City to Nebraska to get [my boyfriend] back. And the [video is about the] idea that when you're away from someone you love, it's torture," she continued. "I knew I wanted the video to be about me sprinting back and walking hundreds of thousands of miles to get him back."

Lady Gaga Dances Up In "The Edgy Of Glory"

Lady Gaga debuted her new music video for "The Edge of Glory" during Thursday's episode of "So You Think You Can Dance." The song is the third single from her sophomore album "Born This Way," and it features one of Gaga's childhood icons, E Street Band sax player Clarence Clemons, who suffered a stroke over the weekend. "In bed with Mommy thinking about Clarence," Gaga tweeted on Monday. "I can't wait for you to see the beautiful video we made together. He's a really special person." Smoke machines! Sax solos! Fake buildings! Gaga salutes the beauty of simplicity in her latest video, which looks like something straight outta 1987.
The song was inspired by the death of the singer's grandfather in late 2010, the 25-year-old pop diva revealed that she wrote this song at an emotional moment at the piano with her father. "My dad and I were going to say goodbye to him at the hospice, and I got out a big thing of agave tequila and my dad sat next to me at the piano and we started doing shots back and forth, and I wrote 'The Edge of Glory' on the piano and my dad and I cried. The song is about, how when I watch my grandpa die, I believe that he looks my grandmother and I realize that he was a champion in the life and that's when he's able to go to the edge of glory that represents being on the edge of that glorious moment."
The most ecstatic pop serenade Gaga has ever come up with, "The Edge of Glory" is a massive power ballad with heavy club beats that features Clemons wailing on his saxophone—but somehow it all seems totally natural when you actually hear it. There's an element of cheesiness to it, but it's totally captivating and incredibly catchy. If any of these new Gaga tunes demands to be a big fat hit this is it. The inclusion of Clemons is an inspired touch that amplifies the song's Eighties stadium rock vibe, but his actual performance is amazing and ranks among the best of his career.
It begins with Gaga slowly appearing from behind a building on a deserted street corner, the '80s-themed promo finds Gaga wearing a two-toned wig and barely-there leather getup, strutting her way through an abandoned New York City neighborhood in a silent night, and getting dirty on the edge of a fire escape and sitting on a stoop with the 69-year-old musician; just hanging out, saxing it up. Not to put down her previous over-the-top video releases but finally. A music video that complements the aesthetic that she's going for with the entire "Born This Way" album; balancing the best song on the record with the album's best music video.

Lady Gaga Has Revealed Video For "Judas"

The potentially controversial new video for Lady Gaga's new single "Judas" has hit the net. This club-banger is the second single from Gaga's forthcoming sophomore album, "Born This Way." The dance song is about falling in love with a backstabbing guy and was inspired by Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus Christ. It's about sometimes not choosing the right choice. But you can't deny that the choice is not a part of you and who you are. The 25-year-old songstress has claimed the biblically-themed video is "not a biblical lesson."
Similar sound to Gaga's previous singles, "Judas" contains three distinct hooks and a break down influenced by house music that speaks of a woman in love with a man who betrays her while simultaneously embodying things that have haunted her in the past, thus representing something that was bad for her – something she could not escape. The 'Poker Face' singer explained that it's also about "honoring your darkness in order to bring yourself into the light. You have to look into what's haunting you and need to learn to forgive yourself in order to move on." Despite the dark lyrics, the song is aimed at clubbers.
Gaga said she didn't intend the song to be a direct interpretation of the New Testament account of Jesus' fallen disciple. "'Judas' is a metaphor and an analogy about forgiveness and betrayal and things that haunt you in your life, and how I believe that it's the darkness in your life that ultimately shines and illuminates the greater light that you have upon you. If you have no shadows then you're not standing in the light. So the song is about washing the feet of both good and evil, and understanding and forgiving the demons from your past in order to move into the greatness of your future."
Gaga filmed the funky, pop-culture-influenced clip in early April with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, who explained that with this video, "'We've created a new Jerusalem," referring to the setting of the Biblical story. The shock value in the video is purposefully added, but ultimately the story is about oppression; and about following your heart and the glory of being free." It includes a Biblical storyline revolving around a love triangle between Mary Magdalene (Gaga), Judas (Norman Reedus) and Jesus (Rick Gonzalez). The theatrical factor is high on this one, with a crowd of elaborately costumed dancers gyrating as Gaga trains her gun on Judas, then ceremoniously washes Jesus's feet.

Lady Gaga Outdances Evil In "Born This Way"

Packed with a unicorn, alien race, birth and "good vs. evil," the time that little monsters throughout the world have been waiting for has arrived! Lady Gaga has finally unveiled her seven-minute Sci-Fi epic, "Born This Way" on Monday morning. This song about love and equality, is the lead single and title track from Gaga's second studio album and third major release in three years. It was written and co-produced by Gaga with the help of Fernando Garibay and DJ White Shadow. The album was described as "a marriage of electronic music with major metal or rock 'n' roll, pop, anthemic style melodies with really sledge-hammering dance beats."
The pop star is building up hype once again for her latest song, "Born This Way," was a critical success, described as a "club-ready anthem," and the song title was inspired by Carl Bean's 1977 gay disco anthem, "I Was Born This Way," but faced criticism due to its similarities to Madonna's hit "Express Yourself," and specifically references race and sexuality. The Guardian wrote that the song "is a thumping, almost disco anthem that stomps along until the chorus crashes in with the weight of a discarded meat dress." Yahoo! Music, however, criticized "Born This Way," stating that the song was "overworked, overwrought, noisy, cheesy, and very, very derivative." It has also became became her third chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100, and broke the overall airplay debut record with a first week audience of 78.5 million.
Gaga debuted the song live at the Grammy Awards on February 13 in a rendition influenced by her background in performance art. The singer arrived at the ceremony in a giant egg that was carried by fashion models, then three hours later she was 'hatched' on stage, symbolizing her 'rebirth,' before she proceeded to perform the tune. Gaga explained to Billboard magazine: "The Grammy performance was about many things, but ultimately the song 'Born This Way' is visually and thematically and lyrically about birthing a new race, birthing a race within the race of already existing cultures of humanity - that bears no prejudice and no judgment." The Grammys don't let performers do new songs very often at the ceremonies, but Gaga was the hottest thing going at the time.
The world seems to be building up a little bit of Gaga tolerance. Her videos usually have little to do with the context of the song, they are always very visually stimulating, well produced, and over-the-top. The Nick Knight-directed "profound, so inspiring and so incredibly beautiful" clip opens with narrative by Gaga herself telling the story of the cosmic birth of good and evil, complete with a very abstract and gooey birth scene. She looks really natural and pretty, aside from those alien bones sticking out of her shoulders and face that she was so fond of at the Grammy Awards. Then comes the zombies. The video did a great job of getting her message across. She could have gone really crazy with the concept, but instead chose to keep simple to get the important message in the song heard more clearly. The clip's wild images of creation have a joyous shock value, and the key element the song itself lacks: creativity!

Lady Gaga Unleashed New Video For "Alejandro"

One-woman army Lady Gaga has just unleashed a new music video on her Youtube channel for her latest eagerly anticipated single "Alejandro," treating fans with dark, provocative scenes some of which make reference to Madonna's "Vogue," the another epic and self-indulgent near nine-minute-long journey will definitely draw comparisons between her and Madonna. She even looks a little like Madonna in it, sporting a platinum blond wig a black blazer suit and a machine gun bra. It sees the singer baring a cold heart, which presumably belongs to Alejandro.
"Alejandro" is the 3rd single from Gaga's 2nd studio album "The Fame Mons†er." It was co-written by Gaga with RedOne, it is composed as a mid-tempo Europop song with an uplifting melody and disco influences, where Gaga sings in a non-English accent about bidding farewell to her lovers. The song went to US radio on April 20 and was released internationally as a digital download in May. Every song in the album represents a 'fear' of some 'monster.' This song, in the words of Gaga represents 'The fear of men monster.' It has a very laid back Spanish feel to it, the music is definitely reminiscent of Madonna's "La isla Bonita." Though the lyrics are very different. The video was directed by the legendary photographer Steven Klein, who has worked with Madonna told Rolling Stones. "She likes epics. It fits her personality. We combined dance, narrative and attributes of surrealism. The process was to express Gaga's desire to reveal her heart and bear her soul."
The 24-year-old pop performer recently told the press her video was about "the purity of my friendships with my gay friends, and how I've been unable to find that with a straight man in my life. It's a celebration and an admiration of gay love—it confesses my envy of the courage and bravery they require to be together. In the video I'm pining for the love of my gay friends—but they just don't want me to be with them." Hence the shirtless men with bowl cuts dancing around in high heels and underwear that concludes with Gaga doing a little Bob Fosse-esque dance and stripping for them in a giant orgy. Throughout the video, she's encircled by an army of choreographed, chiseled dancers writhing around her body in a protective way. Like always, Gaga is dressed to provoke and wears a red leather nun's habit, the dancing and costumes are great as well. All melds to make the video play out like a visual love letter to Madonna's early '90s "Blond Ambition" era.
I think Gaga is still one of the hardest working singers and songwriters out there today and she goes above and beyond to bring not only extravagant shows but great songs, lyrics and passion to the music business. With the "Fame Monster" continually throwing creative punches like this, the only question viewers can ask themselves now is where can Gaga possibly go next? Pretty sure she'll enjoy the challenge. Gaga will be touring the US this summer in her "Monster Ball" tour, kicking off July 1 in Boston. I'm not going to waste your time talking about the video, and enjoy this creative expression of "dark" art.

Lady Gaga & Beyoncé Debut "Telephone" Video

The Fame Monster is at it again. The highly anticipated wildly fierce 9-minute long music video for Lady GaGa's new hit song "Telephone" featuring pop superstar Beyoncé premiered last night on E! News exclusively and released to VEVO /YouTube immediately after its TV debut. From the moment Gaga's "Telephone" danced through the radio airwaves, her millions of monsters worldwide have been eagerly and anxiously waiting for this epic video debut. Originally, the video was slated to premiere in February, but was pushed back to March instead. Exactly one month after filming ended, Gaga announced on Twitter that the video "is coming", she explained that the video is not yet released because it is still being edited and that she wants it to be perfect.
The video, gritty, erotic and wildly fierce, this 9-minute, visually stunning, cinematic masterpiece was filmed outside Los Angeles on January 28, and helmed by famed music video director Jonas Akerlund, who once again took responsibility of translating Gaga's vision into reality. Gaga has said that the video for "Telephone" picks up where "Paparazzi" left off; she's in jail for killing her boyfriend, but she's actually having a good time behind bars and doesn't want to leave. She is constantly getting phone calls and unwanted text messages but refuses to take any while trying to party on the dance floor, until she gets the call she wants, which was Beyoncé bailing Gaga out of jail. She further commented on the video saying, "What I like about it is it's a real true pop event, and when I was younger, I was always excited when there was a big giant event happening in pop music and that's what I wanted this to be."
The two shared an electric on-screen chemistry for Beyoncé's "Videophone" music video and will undoubtedly bring forth the same energy for this new collaboration, which is bigger, better and crazier than ever and surpass its predecessor "Paparazzi." Gaga and Beyoncé looks so hot in this stills. Gaga's on-screen chemistry with Beyoncé transforms the song from a popular dance floor gem to a raw and explosive piece of art to be reckoned with. Rich with Gaga's unique dance stylings, iconic costume design and inter-galactic hairstyle and make-up, especially when you throw a dash of Beyoncé into the mix, this is far from your typical music video. In a massive attempt to bring hype and shock, Beyoncé's highly anticipated music video supporting the remix version of her single "Video Phone" featuring eight new looks and glorified back-up dancer Lady Gaga has its global premiered an hour ahead of schedule across 60 channels on MTV networks.
Apparently it was Beyoincé's idea to team with Gaga for this Hype Williams-directed remix smashing new video, featuring two of the music industries biggest pop divas first ever collaboration in the music scene, is a color fest of fast edits, fashionable costumes and cool dance steps. The clip is catchy, nothing too crazy or over the top but still unbelievably sexy. The two superstars also breakout into a little choreography dressed in all white basque, eye masks and very high heels. The outfits are a mix between the two pop stars, dancing and posing pin-up style with massive toy guns and matching leotards. The best part for me is their sexy chair dance routine towards the end of the video. Overall a must watch video!
Beyoncé and Gaga hooked up a while ago, and they're both incredible performers who can actually dance and sing and write their own music. Gaga's cameo in the video was quite subdued unlike her usual self, a refreshing change. Her own gothic-pop aesthetic has grown more elaborate as her popularity has risen, said she wanted to honor Beyoncé for creating her own style, and praising the R&B performer as "a beautiful person." "I wanted to [work with her] because this was an era for her in her career where she defined herself aesthetically," she said. "And that should be applauded that a woman did that. She's so great at what she does." She added, "I want to do my version of Beyoncé. So the whole time I was learning the choreography they were calling me Gee-yonce."
In addition to making a duet on the hook and video of "Video Phone", Gaga has her new EP album, "The Fame Monster," coming out next week, November 23 with a song called "Telephone," which features Beyoncé, who will be released a live CD/DVD set "I Am Yours."on same day November 23.

Lady Gaga Launches Her "Bad Romance" Video

It's all the right amounts of crazy you'd expect from pop star Lady Gaga, after one day delayed to give more time to make it perfect, the much-discussed new video for her new single "Bad Romance" finally premiered on LadyGaga.com Tuesday. And needless to say, it was worth the wait.
The RedOne-produced track "Bad Romance" is the lead single from her upcoming highly anticipated "The Fame Monster" album which was meant to be a re-release of her debut album "The Fame" and will hits stores on November 23. The single was a hit even before it debuted, a testament to Gaga's global popularity and the power of her unique brand of art-pop.
The eye-catching and conceptual clip for "Bad Romance" was directed by Francis Lawrence who's also helmed clips for the likes of Britney, Justin, Gwen, Shakira and Janet Jackson, not to mention the post-apocalyptic Will Smith vehicle "I Am Legend." Gaga detailed what it was like to work with Lawrence on the project, "I knew ability as a director is so much higher than what I could. There's this one shot in the video where I get kidnapped by supermodels. I'm washing away my sins and they shove vodka down my throat to drug me up before they sell me off to the Russian mafia." When explaining her concept of the video she said "It was collaborative. He's a really pop video director and a filmmaker. He did 'I Am Legend' and I'm a huge Will Smith fan, so I knew he could execute the video in a way that I could give him all my weirdest, most psychotic ideas, but it would come across to and be relevant to the public."
The international pop diva more than lives up to her reputation for visual innovation in the new clip, which is the kind of video you just don't see very often anymore and that goes double for the anticipation surrounding it. This is officially the best video Gaga has ever done, and once you finish this five-minute extravaganza, you'll think the same. It's a testament to her brilliance as an artist that Gaga is using the "Bad Romance" video as the jump-off point for the next leg of her career. The message is clear: the old Gaga is over, here's the brand-new Gaga, the one who seems to delight in pushing the boundaries and exploring all manner of sexual proclivities. Gaga, the marketing genius of the century starts 'The Monster Ball Tour' on November 27 and it promises to be better than anything before.
