Marianas Trench heads back to '40s in "Stutter"

To celebrate the fact that we didn't die in some sort of apocalyptic night, Canadian pop rock band Marianas Trench have released the music video of latest single, "Stutter," the fourth single from the pop-rock quartet's third studio album, "Ever After," which is in stores now. The band have been successfully bring a theatrical epic destined to reign supreme in the ears of all mainstream audiences, fans, and critics alike.
"Ever After" is a concept album that tells the story of a man awakening in a land run by Queen Carolina, who uses her factory to build toys that steal hearts. The man goes on a mission to find Porcelain: the missing, heartless, adopted daughter of the former king. She holds a piece of a key that opens a chest that will allow him to return home... or something like that. If it makes zero sense, don't feel bad. Despite the story sounding like a bad Nintendo Wii game, it takes absolutely nothing away from "Ever After" overall. If anything, it shows the much admired ambition of Marianas Trench, and the fact that they can make an album of this brand work so well.
Josh Ramsay, the lead vocalist explained in an interview with AOL Music about the inspiration behind the "story" that is "Ever After," which "is a fairy tale, it takes the listener on a journey into a dark, mythical world, and helps them to find their way home when all is said and done. The story is inspired by both our own personal experiences and fairy tales of our childhood." Marianas Trench certainly aren't unfamiliar with the concept route in general and "Ever After" demonstrates exactly how to actualize this feat. For records in this vein, it's not only about the story, but the execution as well and the execution here is damn near flawless.
"Stutter" provides a break from the dramatic ballad as they're absolutely massive pop numbers that are huge on substance, catchiness, and production, which is a formula Marianas Trench has down to a science. True to the band's nature, the video is a bit kooky, tons of fun and very creative. For "Stutter," the band heads to the swingin' Big Band era of the 1940s. They attempt to blend into the crowd by practicing their jive moves while avoiding a stern-looking police officer and her posse.

Marianas Trench Dodges Explosions In "Fallout"

Canadian pop-punkers Marianas Trench debuted the explosive video via MTV for their second single "Fallout," which is also the first since the release of their third studio album "Ever After" in last November. The foursome's latest video, "Fallout," explores the treacherous minefield that is a crumbling relationship.
Written by lead singer Josh Ramsay himself and then finessed into an accompanying booklet, "Ever After" are going to tell fans one long, continuous story of a man who finds himself trapped in a fairytale feud with an evil heart-stealing queen in a continuous flow of music that has every song cycling into the next without a break. It's an actual physical experience; a warm throwback to the album era when your music was more than a bunch of orphaned songs sitting on an endless iPod playlist.
"All the songs live on their own as songs, but they also serve the purpose of telling the story throughout the record," Ramsay explains. Much like the album, the band plans to make all the videos line up to make sense continuously, Ramsay said in an interview for MTV's Push. "This one's a little more abstract. It's not quite as literally right out of the story as the first one is, but there's definitely still elements of it for sure. I think later when people see all the videos from the
record, it's going to be cool and all line up."
The video follows Ramsay as he dodges explosions and memories set off by a recent breakup. He was on-and-off with his girlfriend in their last video "Haven't Had Enough," and "Fallout" picks up where they left off - permanently off. It opens with Ramsay and his girlfriend under a cloudy sky in a vacant field as he begs her to try to make their relationship work - cut to flashback sequences of the better times and the not-so-better times. The Vancouver emo punks plays through the wreckage as they narrate the breakup. At the end of the video, she hands Ramsay a bogus key necklace. Might that be a key element in the band's next video?

Marianas Trench Debut "Haven't Had Enough"

Canadian Pop punk band Marianas Trench have recently released a music video for "Haven't Had Enough," the first single off of their upcoming album, "Ever After," which is expected to be released sometime in early fall, and according to bassist Mike Ayley says is a preview of the theme of the band's new album, and it's this dark fairy tale Tim Burton kind of story. TheMagazine.ca called the song "somewhat different from their previous material, though it still has the 'Marianas Trench feel'."
Marianas Trench have yet to crack the worldwide or U.S. markets, but their music pops like few other bands' thanks to their combination of a pop-punk lyrical aesthetic, dance-rock synths and beats, a theatrical sensibility complete with searing charismatic vocals, and songwriting that exhibits a talent for knowing exactly how to keep the listener's attention. Their last full length release, "Masterpiece Theatre" caught much attention.
"Haven't Had Enough" tempers the rock guitars of "Masterpiece Theatre" in favor of a cross between Maroon 5 and Foxy Shazam. The lyrics speak of a couple who "got the start wrong;" despite this, the narrator insists that "you haven't had enough," and that "you must admit you want it" again. The song is circular in nature, beginning negatively and ending positively. You can almost hear lead singer Josh Ramsay wrongly convincing himself of this fact as he rips through the song and it's entrancing. This is pop music that pops.
The video for track tells the story of a guy chasing his love through time, and nothing will stop him, not pirates, pharaohs, or zombies! "Haven't Had Enough" was filmed in Vancouver and dressed in various costumes to be extras in the video. Ramsay is trapped in a magically evil toy world ruled by a Wicked Princess, populated by her life-sized toy-like minions and he just doesn't know it yet until the end, when it's too late and she manages to turn him into one of her life-size toys as well.

Marianas Trench Debut Masterpiece "Beside You"

Marianas Trench, a Juno award nominated Canadian punk rock band has premiered an Official video on Much Music's MuchOnDemand for the third single "Beside You" off band's sophomore album, "Masterpiece Theatre," which was released last September. The band went on "Beside You" tour with Carly Rae Jepsen, The New Cities, and The Mission District to promote the song.
The four highly trained band's name "Marianas Trench" came from the Mariana Trench, the deepest known point in the world. Marianas Trench comes by its hybrid rock/vocal sound honestly. Cocky and confident in the knowledge that Marianas Trench has worked supremely hard to get to this point. The result: A novel mix of brash and innocent, yearning melodicism and over-the-top rock dynamics. The front man and founder Josh Ramsay says "I grew up amidst a crazy amount of music. Most people are influenced by their favorites, and mine just happen to be from radically different sides of the spectrum. The band intends to break fast from the starting gate once 'Fix Me' hits the street. We've been waiting a long time for this moment, and we intend to bust our balls to make it happen."
A true short story from the experience. Unlike most of their songs, this truly beautiful song "Beside You" has an African tribe-style beat and a recurring chant throughout the song. "Beside You" is a panoramic exercise in big emotions, with a dash of the Dream Academy's "Life In a Northern Town." The music video for "Beside You" was directed by RT and shot on September 29, 2009. The band shot it at University of British Columbia in Vancouver, along with orchestra/band members from Lord Byng Secondary School in as extras for the video.
I love this song as soon as I heard it and like its powerful lyrics as well. The first time you hear it, you can get confused by the intense Queen-like vocals on it that sound like something from The Lion King, but when you look past that... it's astounding. These four guys harmonize together like no tomorrow and have for their entire musical career as Marianas Trench. The song has a true meaning with a burning passion, and it makes you sad. The quartet are definitely a talented band, even though on some points they sound like they are pushing into the boundaries of R&B, but either way it's still a talented band. I'm kind of amazed a band like this hasn't taken off in the states.
