Jewel Chooses To Stop And Count To "Ten"

Three-time GRAMMY-winning singer Jewel performing in her music video for "Ten," is today's addition at Top Country Music Videos. The single, a fan favorite, is the 3rd single off Jewel's ninth studio album, "Sweet and Wild," a country-leaning album she released this past June. The music video premiered on CMT a few days ago. With a twangy, guitar-plucking melody, Jewel admits love's journey is no easy task despite occasional conflicts, she says sometimes the best resolution is to step back and reflect, her new single "Ten" inspires hope that she may find that voice once again.
The 36-year-old country crossover singer bounced between pop, light rock and even dance—the genre where she has found her most chart success. And then there was country. Yet, she's never really tapped in to the same well of insight that she drew from when she was younger. Not until now, not until this one track from this otherwise unremarkable collection. "Ten," co-written with Dave Berg, is glossy and fully aligned with country music's mainstream. But it's also one of the best songs she's ever written—certainly the best song she's written in a decade. "Ten" is not just a tight song, it's a perfect song. The track boasts a plucky banjo and the faint wail of a steel guitar, but album producer Nathan Chapman smartly keeps most of the musical augmentation in a supporting role to Jewel's incredible voice.
The real story here, however, is just how essential these lyrics are. "Ten" tells the story of a woman who, in the midst of fights with her lover, stops and counts to ten. As she counts through the chorus, we get to hear what goes on in her mind. "One, I still wanna hate you/Two, three I still wanna leave," she sings. This isn't your cookie-cutter "we've all got problems" bickering, as typically portrayed on country radio. This is real. This is a drag it out, scream and shout kind of fight. This is the kind of fight that's so frustrating, so infuriating, so demoralizing, that it just seems like the best thing you can do is pack up your bag and go.
Because anything has to be better than this. A fight like that spirals out of control, and like a snowball rolling down a mountain, it builds upon itself. The words get meaner and the pain grows deeper. Although Jewel isn't pulling any punches when she puts on the boxing gloves in her new video for "Ten." Jewel reminds us that, in that moment, we have to hold on. And, that if we can just get to ten we might not even remember what we were fighting about in the first place. "Ten" is smart, sensitive and powerful. Here's hoping that Jewel, after all of these years has finally voice that voice she's been searching for.

Jewel Kilcher Is "Satisfied" With Her New Video

Just had her 36th birthday on Sunday, the country crossover artist Jewel Kilcher released the new video on CMT for her latest second single, "Satisfied," off her upcoming ninth studio album "Sweet and Wild," which is slated for release on June 8 via Valory Music Group.
Kicking off her set with no one watching, Jewel takes the center stage of empty War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville in Peter Zavadil directed video. While the country music singer who wears cream tube dress is delivering her verses, as the video progresses, people begin one by one to enter the auditorium to see her performance, and gradually become happier after listening to the song's uplifting message. The song is yet to be released to radio but the video gives fans a great look at the beauty and elegance of Jewel.
Backed by shakers and a piano melody, Jewel sings about "Letting someone know you love them, while you can." "My husband (Ty Murray) and I have talked a lot about what is happiness and what makes a person happy," she told The Tennessean about what inspired her to write the song. "It's funny because I feel like we all are interested in happiness, but I feel like very few of us sit down to actually see how much we're doing in our day lends to our happiness. It also seems like when you're a kid you have all these goals about what you want your life to become. Now when you accomplish those goals, you have to re-evaluate and see if they are making you happy because what makes a person feel satisfied might be different than what you thought."
Jewel looking as beautiful and as graceful as ever releases her latest music video for her new song "Satisfied" and it is truly an amazingly sweet love song. "Satisfied" is a song that everyone can relate to and it is so good to hear her angelic voice singing a new song. "Satisfied" is clean, soft and filtered through a prism of commercialism. "Satisfied" is a sweet little sliver of hope, professionally crafted and sung by one of music's most identifiable (and gifted) voices. It's definitely more country-ish then some of her previous songs. It has a beautiful melody and her vocals work so well with it. That's quite an achievement, all things considered–though probably not the one she was aiming for.

Jewel 'Stay Here Forever' From 'Valentine's Day'

When it comes to relationships, there's one singer out there that has had her thumb on the heartbeat of love and heartbreak over the years. Dominating the charts with hits like "Foolish Games," "You Were Meant For Me," "Pieces of You," and "Who Will Save Your Soul," the country crossover artist Jewel is ready to add a new song to her collection of hits. The latest from the country superstar is an upbeat celebration of love just in time for St. Valentine and the new film "Valentine's Day." Jewel just released the official music video for her first country chart single "Stay Here Forever," a lighthearted dedication to romance serves as the lead soundtrack for the new romantic comedy "Valentine's Day," as well as the lead-off single to Jewel's upcoming second country album with Valory Music Group, which the Nashville and Texas vibes have found their way into the music for sure, and will likely be out in June.
It's so nice to have Jewel back. She has received three Grammy Award nominations and has sold more than 27 million albums in her career, which began in 1995. Jewel came out in 2008 with her own brand of country music and while it didn't deviate much from what she's always done, Jewel didn't become as big a star on the country charts as many suspected she would. If people are familiar at all with producer Nathan Chapman, they'll recognize the similarity of this song to something that might have been on a Taylor Swift record sonically. Lyrically the song follows a romantic path that is pretty obvious from the title alone. The melody is purely out of the Taylor Swift songbook but that vocal is completely chock full-o-charm and at times I hear some Pam Tillis in this cute and playful romantic romp. In other words, this song could very well be Jewel's big mainstream country break while also being perfectly suited to be featured in a rom-com.
"Stay Here Forever" is a country ballad, backed primarily by percussion with occasional fiddle fills. Jewel talked to EW about her new single she contributed to the mix. "I heard the soundtrack folks were looking for one more song, and I submitted this one and they fell in love with it and made it the lead single," Jewel says. "That's pretty cool. I wrote it for my husband, Ty, and used how I feel for him as inspiration. It's about being in love and how going on a great adventure is fun, but sometimes staying home with the one you love is even better."
Jewel portrays a florist in Peter Zavadil-directed music video for "Stay Here Forever", while she is singing and arranging flowers, scenes of the various couples from the highly publicized and anticipated romantic comedy "Valentine's Day," features a star-studded line-up, has more stars in one movie than any I've seen in years, hit theaters Friday for St.Valentine's Day weekend, and has already topping the box office. Jewel Kilcher was born May 23, 1974 in Utah. She has received 3 Grammy Award nominations and has sold 27 million albums worldwide, and almost 20 million in the US alone. "You Were Meant for Me" is the 2nd single on her debut album, "Pieces of You", and went on to receive a great deal of recognition. It relates the singer's incomprehension of a failed relationship, and her inadequate attempts at moving on with her life. The album was also a huge success and eventually sold over 12 million copies in the U.S. alone.

The music video was directed by Lawrence Carroll for the Radio Edit. Steve Poltz appeared in the video, which would win Best Female Video honors at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards. My other favorite singles from Jewel are "Hands", "Standing Still", and "This Way".
