Ella Henderson sings her relationship in "Yours"

X Factor finalist 2012, Ella Henderson, has premiered her brand spanking new video for her next single, "Yours," the third single off tetney singing sensation's debut studio album, "Chapter One," which is now getting an official US release! It features songs like "Glow," "Mirror Man" and the breakout single "Ghost." Look out for the LP on January 13.
Henderson co-wrote "Yours" with Josh Record, who also produced the song, and it's so incredibly romantic we don't know whether to be happy or sad. About the whole shebang, Henderson said: "I wrote 'Yours' to represent something beautiful that's going on in my world right now. Being able to strip everything back to just me and the piano allows me to simply speak through my music."
The beautifully stripped ballad gets an equally minimal visual which was directed by James Lees and it's shot entirely in black-and-white, giving it a soft, romantic vibe that fits in perfectly with the style of the song. Shot in New York, the video sees the 18-year-old British singer playing the tune on a piano in her city apartment, and gazing lovingly at her boyfriend sleeps the day away to reflect on their relationship. Ella Henderson shows off some private moments during her recent promo trip in her new video for her latest single, "Hard Work," taken from the British singer-songwriter's deliciously accomplished debut studio album, "Chapter One." Henderson beautiful vocals and earnest lyrics show she's come a long way since her X Factor audition back in 2012, where Henderson finished in sixth place, despite being the favorite to win. Since then Henderson continues to show the extent of the success that can befall some of this year's show talent.
Ever since Amy Winehouse hit the scene, female singers continue to take a page out of her vocal style book. Artists such as Duffy and Adele took influence and carved their own identity with just enough of a difference but with a big sense of familiarity. Henderson seems to come from the same musical family. The 18-year-old has put her name to every single song on the album as a co-writer (aside from "Glow"). She's taken her time, she's gone away and really thought about her direction, and she's made sure that her album was perfect before releasing it.
This gloriously sweet ballad "Hard Work," was actually co-written with Amy Winehouse collaborator Salaam Remi, isn't anything new but its familiarity is pleasant. It's a perfect first-dance wedding song! It's just so classic-sounding. Stunning. It catches you a bit off guard at first. "You're hard work...but you're good to me." There's a bit of a double edge sword to this one. Yes, the relationship is amazing, but it's hard at times and requires work. Well, that's the basis of any relationship and Henderson's really capture the essence of love here in this song.
The song works around a harp arpeggiated sequence, and focuses on Henderson's big soulful vocals. It bops along pleasantly, with an interestingly unusual picked bass sound. It's really just lovely. From her killer vocals, to the strings, to the entire vibe, she just gets it right! The song's accompanying video is shot in a vintage frame, and shows former X Factor contestant in the process of recording the eagerly-anticipated album, both larking about with her mates, signing album covers and in the studio.

When it comes to the old X Factor game, there have been a fair few winners and losers in the show's time. While things didn't quite work out for former winners Steve Brookstein, Leon Jackson and Shayne Ward, a few have been lucky. And it's probably safe to say Ella Henderson's joined the likes of One Direction, Little Mix and Cher Lloyd as one of those who broke the telly talent show curse. Yup, after the mahoosive success of her platinum-certified and Ryan Tedder-penned debut single "Ghost," the 18-year-old British soulstress' back with another big belter of a tune.
Taken from the former X Factor star's ridiculously-long-awaited debut album, "Chapter One," "Glow," serves as the follow-up to her debut single "Ghost," which went straight to No.1 in the UK back in June. Produced by Steve Mac, "Glow," is a pop mid-tempo with a vibe of a sadness and melancholy and Henderson's deep voice makes a perfect fit with this song. Literally living for the chanty chorus bit. "Glow" heads in a rather different direction than the power-pop number "Ghost." With its thumping and dreamy melody, the song not only shows Henderson's incredible versatility, but also really allows her angelic vocals to shine through.

Just like her catchy pop thumper "Ghost," the accompanying wistful clip, is just as ethereal, also has a sort of 'dark' theme, despite of the song title, sees Henderson glides through a field from dusk till dawn, belting the track on the edge of a forest, while a group of teenagers wander about an industrial site and do a cool 'tribal' dance at nigh time. When daylight is almost back, the adolescents walk through the field Henderson was singing in and make their way head towards a city in the distance. There are loads of cool critters dancing about like loons in a spooky woods as she shows off those unstoppable vocal chops of hers.
Like "Ghost," it's a bit of a grower, but you can guarantee your mom/dad/nan/literally everyone will be asking for the album for Christmas. Cool video, and I get the message. We are the youth, we are full of life, and we are glowing! Simply put, it's every bit as young, wild and free as you wanted it to be. On top of the insanely catchy hook and gorgeous video, it's a showcase for a pretty unique voice in Brit-pop that might be a surprising one to watch this fall.

Ella Henderson pleads ex-lover to give up 'Ghost'

The former X Factor contestant Ella Henderson has spent well over a year perfecting her debut album, "Chapter One" and it's been about 18 months since she was warbling away on our telly screens, but she's finally back with a bang. The Tetney singer, 18, releases her long-awaited first track "Ghost" and accompanying hauntingly music video online. "Chapter One" will be available in September, and despite the album taking so long to produce, she's totally happy with how it's turned out.
Teaming up with One Republic's frontman Ryan Tedder to co-write this compelling pop debut "Ghost," recording it on her 18th birthday at his house in Denver, the British songstress blends her rich, bluesy vocals with a retro beat, with ridiculously catchy consequences! Speaking about her collaboration with Tedder, Henderson said: "I wanted to make this big record and have it played worldwide, and he knows a special formula to write songs like that. When I first listened back to my album as a body of work, I realized it was everything I hoped it would be. Something real, raw and honest."
On "Ghost," we find Henderson struggling to exercise the demon of a lost love. She sounds lovely and vulnerable when she pleads to an ex-lover to 'give up the ghost' and when she belts the word 'river' in the higher register of her vocals at the end of this part. Though her slight retro soul is tormented, she has a crisp, powerful vocal performance which emits an aura of hope and strength. Her sound is intoxicating, like a more traditional pop cut, but she has more soul and power than you typical cookie cutter crooner. Henderson surprised the world with this funky, soulful, swinging and emotional debut single.
Henderson filmed the promo on a nighttime shoot out in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 9th and as this was her first ever music video shoot - we hope you'll agree - she did a pretty good job. The video sees Henderson performing the track in a red-lit motel room before showing off some pretty impressive power walking while being followed by police cars. There's two stories going on in this video; Two men in trouble with the law and being chased by ghosts from the past. Stories with a bit of a twist. And that's how you can describe "Ghost" too.
