Mary J. Blige worrying her relationship in "Why"

Mary J. Blige has released the video for "Why," the third single from Blige's latest tenth record, "My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1)," features Maybach Music Group's head honcho Rick Ross. The latest track isn't the happiest of songs, but in the new video, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul and guest rhymer Ross manage to have a pretty good time.
"Why can't we get it right no matter how hard we try?" Blige sings in her single "Why?" which is the sort of strained-relationship midtempo wailer that Blige seems to own the patent on, and it's weirdly heartening to see that she's still great at it despite what appears to be a happy married life. "I know you're fed up, so am I," Blige sings with the passion that she has mastered so well over the years. "But we just can't say goodbye," she continues in a dimly lit bedroom next to her sleeping lover.
In the spirit of moving on, the songstress doesn't lament for long, but instead hits an extravagant lounge. There, Ross is surrounded by gorgeous women with a drink in one hand and an expensive cigar in the other. "I got her lookin' at me sideways, live every night like it's a Friday," he raps. And though Blige is still obviously focused on her relationship worries, she joins Ross for a final performance at the lounge. The two, both dressed in white, complement each other as they perform under an elegant chandelier.
The Colin Tilley-directed glossy video, too, is pure vintage Blige, who throws off difficult vocal runs with ease and confidence. In the video, the 41-year-old R&B recording artist finds herself up late worrying about a troubled relationship. She starts out heartbroken, moping around her apartment and singing about a love affair that just ain't working. She perks up a bit when she joins Ross at a swagged-out party, but even amid well-dressed, good-looking groovers and clanging glasses of Belvedere, she can't seem to shake her sadness.

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has released the music video for her latest (flop) single, the Drake-assisted "Mr. Wrong," taken from Blige's 10th solo studio album, "My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1)," out November 21. Although the album version featured the Young Money​ signed Canadian rapper Drake, but he doesn't appear on this version used for the official video or make an appearance.
You could say this is Blige's second life. Blige breaks down how women can spot the Mr. Wrong in their own lives. Co-produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love, the midtempo cut "Mr. Wrong" will serve as the follow-up to the lead single "25/8." "It's an extremely soulful song that expresses the true level of love that a woman can have for a man who simply is no good for her," Love tells Rap-Up.com. "I wrote it because in many ways I am Mr. Wrong." The video's glamour treatment suits the mellow and dramatic mood of the song.
The Diane Martel-directed video shows a performance mixed with highlighted moments that amplify Blige, and it's basically Blige glowing again in the dark with neon lights effects, and sensual choreographies. The clip begins with a music box opening up, but instead of a tiny rotating ballerina, something out of the ordinary for Blige besides her usual two step, we see the soul queen holding onto a stripper pole. Amidst disco balls and smoke, the R&B icon poses and dances in a variety of throwback looks, harkening her 'My Life' era. Take a trip down memory lane with scenes of her looking fierce, fly, and divaish.

Mary J. Blige Proves She Is "The Living Proof"

Mary J. Blige has been through many trials and tribulations in her storied career, some of them documented and others well hid behind the scenes. The New York native draws upon such experiences to be the motivational force behind the song and video for "The Living Proof," which serves as the theme track to the dramatic comedy "The Help," opened in theatres last night.
Based on the No.1 New York Times best-selling novel of the same name by Kathryn Stockett, the new Disney's drama is set in the Civil Rights-era South and tells the story of a white woman and two black maids who form a bond while working on a secret writing project together that puts them all at risk. When Blige saw film, she was so moved that a song began pouring out of her soul. "I wanted to be involved with this film, because I think we need to encourage each other more, we are here to tell a story. The beautiful thing about these women is that they were very smart. To speak to so many women with this song means a lot to me," Grammy-winning singer said.
Produced by the Underdogs, the bold R&B/Soul chanteuse belts out in her soulful tone, and channels her inner strength to sing about letting go and moving forward. Blige has endured a long, long journey, but she continues to carry on with her latest release "The Living Proof." In the visuals, Blige, dressed in a coral blouse and white blazer, is featured singing the song, - written for the movie's character Aibileen Clark, a maid living in Jackson, Miss., in the '60s - in front of a microphone while a man gingerly taps away at the piano keys behind her. Throughout the clip, scenes from the film, which stars Viola Davis as Aibileen, are also showcased. Becoming a powerful black woman isn't easy, and Ms. Blige is living proof of that.

The super talented Mary J. Blige premiered her brand new video via vevo.com for her most recent hit "I Am," the second single taken from her ninth studio album "Stronger WithEach Tear," which was just released through Universal on Monday, after being pushed back twice. Penned by Johnta Austin, features leading rapper T.I., singers Trey Songz and Drake. Blige is all about empowerment and says she wants her new album to be "a picture of strength." She told USA Today that "The things that I allowed to happen in the past will never, ever be allowed to happen again."
Blige has won nine Grammys, and has received the World Music Legends Award for hip hop and soul. As of 2008, she had sold over 48 million records worldwide. The Queen of R&B and Hip Hop Soul lets it be known that she's irreplaceable on her latest single "I Am," which confidently tells one's lover nobody can treat them better than the person they are with at the present time. Sounds pretty promising, and this sampler alone is a lot more relentlessly upbeat and packed with hit potential. The video is simple and nice, and was directed by famed lensman, Anthony Mandler. Unlike certain other R&B-pop stars unveiling their new music video, Blige knows how to wistfully stroll down a beach with sophistication. In her video, Blige's showcases her vocals and rocks some pretty sweet full-length frocks while trying to convince her lover she's the best one out there.
The dynamic star has a lot to be proud of. In addition to putting out mega hits, she recently had a supporting role in Tyler Perry's movie "I Can Do Bad All By Myself," and will appear as a guest judge in the upcoming American Idol, Season 9. Blige has also landed her own reality show on BET that will feature her new foundation. She wants to air stories about how people are changing their lives just like music changed hers.
