Death Cab For Cutie - "Stay Young, Go Dancing"

Death Cab for Cutie debut a rand new music video in support of their latest single "Stay Young, Go Dancing," is lifted from the San Francisco-based indie rock's latest seventh album "Codes and Keys," which contains within it one of the most cutesy offerings the band have ever crafted. The rockers take the track's title about as literally as possible and the new video would be equally as cheesy and romantic, is filled with romantic scenes about a long-lasting love.
This song features a string quartet called the Magik Magik orchestra. The frontman Ben Gibbard told Q magazine he wasn't concerned about falling in the pomp rock trap of needlessly using a string ensemble. He said: "Using orchestras and choirs for the sake of it is when it sounds really bloated. Look at "November Rain" by Guns N' Roses. There's no need for an orchestra to be on that song. It doesn't serve the music or make it better." Fans of beautiful indie-pop-melodies and violin sounds rejoice!
Jam! Music asked Gibbard how much of the love content on "Codes and Keys" was written about his new wife, actress and musician Zooey Deschanel? He replied: "There are moments on the new album - like 'Stay Young, Go Dancing' or the first verse of 'Monday Morning' - that are about my wife." The frontman added, "With all of these songs that I write, I want them to have as much universal appeal as possible and certainly don't feel like I want to undermine the complexity of the lyrics at times and make that happen."
In the Claire Carré-directed clip, they tell a flashback story about a love that never fades away by tracing the love journey of a couple from their old age to winsomely charming childhood as they progress through their relationship. The clip also features a whole lot of Gibbard playing guitar on a porch. "I liked the idea of moving backwards," Gibbard told Spinner. "In the beginning you see this couple who are in their 70s, and throughout the video they move through these corridors and become younger and younger and I think it's a rather touching way to show these two people."

After nearly two months of talking about it and teasing us with it, the Grammy-nominated American indie rock band, Death Cab for Cutie finally bring the video for "Meet Me on the Equinox," the anticipated lead single on the soundtrack for the upcoming "New Moon" film, the second in the Twilight franchise installment, premiered exclusively on the music giant MTV last night as a major media event. MTV.com was flooded with comments from rabid Twilighters, most of whom were positively in love with the video, and they didn't think Death Cab's song was too bad, either. The hipster teens and gothic Twi-hards can finally unite in heartbreak.
The indie rock band originally formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and has released six studio albums, five EPs, and one demo to date. They said "We wrote 'Meet Me On the Equinox' to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the 'Twilight' series and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters. This song marks the first attempt that band has ever made at contributing new, unreleased material for a film. The song is more about singer Ben Gibbard's personal life than Stephenie Meyer's fictional world. The song at its core is just about meeting another halfway, because life is very short, because there's only a brief period of time to really connect with people, and that it's important to recognize that. We just wanted something that kind of tonally matched the story and the scenes within the film, so they could kind of be put alongside but not be telling a narrative you're watching on the screen.We are not only proud to be a part of the 'Twilight' legacy, but also honored to join so many other fantastic artists that have lent their amazing creativity to this soundtrack." The song debuted on September 13 during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
The music video was directed by Walter Robot team and it features a few scenes from "New Moon" interspersed with Death Cab for Cutie performing inside a spooky mansion on the outskirts of Toronto, while the sun moves through the sky. One of which shows Kristen Stewart's Bella jumping from the cliff. The soundtrack also features the likes of Bon Iver and St. Vincent, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Thom Yorke, Editors and more. Beside including a song from Death Cab for Cutie, the soundtrack album for the movie, which will come out in U.S. theaters on November 20, also the album will arrive in stores across the country on a month before the movie's premiere. Overall, the video serves its purpose as a teaser for the second part of the Twilight saga.
