61st Emmy nominations have been announced Thursday morning. A recent rule change by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences increased the number of nominees in major categories to allow for new faces and series to share the spotlight with Emmy veterans.
Tina Fey's NBC satire-rich sitcom, "30 Rock" received a leading 22 Emmys, the most any comedy series has received in Emmy history, while the '60s retro series, AMC's stylish, "Mad Men" led the drama pack with 16 bids. Both were big winners last year, taking best comedy series and best drama, respectively.
I have to say, "Mad Men" is just fantastic, and the best show ever. "30 rock" is a fun series but it is too silly. Also some of the best series on TV I really liked are coming up empty in the major categories, and failed to earn nods, such as "Grey's Anatomy(ABC)", "True Blood(HBO)" and "Friday Night Lights(NBC)". By the way, the Mad Men: Season 2's DVD was also just released on Tuesday.
The Emmy Awards will host by Neil Patrick Harris Sept. 20 on CBS from the Nokia Theatre in LA. Check Emmys for full list of Nominees.

Wow, I'm surprised "30 Rock" got so many nominations. I've seen several episodes and I didn't think it was that great. I haven't seen "Mad Men" though - I'll have to check it out.
