Carrie Underwood Is Warning Har "Good Girl"

Just turned 29, Carrie Underwood has premiered a music video on Entertainment Tonight for her new single, "Good Girl", the lead cut from her forthcoming fourth studio album, "Blown Away," which she has said will feature songs with a "darker storyline," due in stores on May 1. Underwood is primarily a country artist, but here, the 'American Idol' alum heads into territory that straddles three genres. While you can still hear instrumentation from her country roots.
The song, which Underwood co-wrote with Ashley Gorley and Chris DeStefano, shimmies and shakes with 1980s style hand claps and a pop-leaning melody while the lyrics is about Underwood warning a good girl about her boyfriend, saying that he is actually no good, and that she is better off without him. While the song isn't remotely 'traditional country' and isn't too far removed melodically from the rhythmic pop songs that are dominating pop music airwaves right now, there's also no denying the fantastic vocal delivery Underwood provides on "Good Girl."
Underwood debuted the song in a live performance during the annual Country Radio Seminar event in Nashville last month. The Joan Jett guitars and uptempo drum track crackles with rock guitar and vocal fireworks while encouraging audience participation with a singalong chorus that is pure pop. The country cutie shows off her fabulous voice and witty lyrics and without a shadow of a doubt this is the best uptempo vocal that Underwood has given country radio. Underwood shows she's capable of brandishing her weapon only when needed, and always with cool efficiency and power.
Filmed in Los Angeles, the Theresa Wingert-directed clip is sexy and sassy to fit the uptempo tune's lyrics, but doesn't feature a storyline. It's really just a collection of Underwood in various fashions strutting her stuff and flaunting her stunning looks as if her stunning voice wasn't enough, Underwood proves she is also one heck of a dancer and fashion model. Underwood channels her inner good girl as well as an edgier side that matches the grit of the song. Her two sides even sing/debate at each other, suggesting that the titular 'good girl' getting warned about a lying, no-good man might just be Underwood herself.
