Colbie Caillat issues message of self-love in "Try"

Colbie Caillat is back with a self-confidence anthem, "Try," off her "Gypsy Heart" EP, and an equally inspiring powerful new video to go with it. The 29-year-old fresh-faced Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter issues a powerful message of self-love when it comes to living up to society's standards of beauty. And the raw and emotional clip shows Caillat has opted to strip away the glamor and present herself and her friends as they really are without their makeup.
California singer wrote this super-empowering piano ballad with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who inspired and urged her to vent her dissatisfactions in the industry when it came to pressures about how women look. The song contains a message of self-love aimed at females. "It's exhausting being a woman," Caillat told Billboard. "This song is not to say that we should never wear makeup, but to say that, sometimes, it's okay not to." she added "We wanted a song that was honest and vulnerable. We shot the video in reverse, we started bare, and by the end we finished with the full hair and makeup, and then reversed the film for the finished product."
In the clip, Caillat is tired of being Photoshopped as she and various other women of all shapes and sizes bravely remove their makeup to show acceptance of their God-given features and flaws. "Put your makeup on/ Get your nails done/ Curl your hair/ Run the extra mile/ Keep it slim so they like you, do they like you?" she sings as her and other air-brushed ladies flaunt their done-up hair and makeup. At first, I was a little taken aback. Wasn't this supposed to be about being your true self? Instead, what I saw was a cartoonized version of Mariah Carey in a Dove ad - smokey eyes, fluffy hair and a perfect complexion, all in front of a white backdrop.
But things started to take a turn for the optimistic around the 0:44 mark when we saw the women wiping off their makeup. Caillat takes part, too, removing her hair extensions, peeling off her fake eye lashes and revealing her natural look. "You don't have to try so hard/ You don't have to, give it all away/ You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up/ You don't have to change a single thing/ you don't have to try," she reassures, giving women a reason to love themselves, ending the video looking smiley and seriously at the camera. "Don't you like you? 'Cause I like you."

Colbie Caillat can't fight moonlight in "Hold On"

Colbie Caillat has dropped the music video for her melodic new song "Hold On," the lead single from Caillat's upcoming fifth studio album, which does not yet have a release date. This is not to be confused with a "Hold On" that appears on the singer’s 2010 iTunes Session EP. They're completely different records. The new video sees Caillat channeling her inner goddess in a big, cheesy moonlit jungle sequence.
co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, "Hold On" finds the singer figuring out what to do about her relationship with her lover, which is on the verge of collapse. With a pounding drumbeat and multiple vocal tracks, the song is a departure from Caillat's previous mellow acoustic work and sees Caillat exploring a slightly more electronic sound than she has in the past, as she in slighter rhythmic-pop territory. The song is a wonderful midtempo jam with an ultra-catchy chorus and it reminds us a bit more of, say, the mid '90s output of Annie Lennox; in particular.
The lyrics were inspired by Caillat's own experiences with broken-down relationships, where she's been the one urging to give it another shot. "I know a lot of people can relate, it's like the game of love," she told Billboard magazine. "When I was writing with Ryan it was basically about, 'You're ready to let go of this person, and the second you do, that's when they're all about you. They pull their same spiel where they back away, and you only want them more.'" It's nice to see the guitar-pop princess tackling something with a little more crunch.
Lyrically, the song's embrace of the spiritual power that flows through the stars in the sky. The visual has a similarly hippy dippy feel, which was directed by Cameron Duddy and Harper Smith. It sees Caillat walking barefoot through and lying on the beach sand, and on the grass in the middle of a jungle, and is also surrounded by a group of dancers as they dancing in a puddle of water and jive in front of a massive moonlit sky. The clip has an otherworldly feel, the 28-year-old emulating some sort of goddess as an interstellar backdrop spins behind her.

Colbie Caillat & Gavin DeGraw | "We Both Know"

Watch pop-rock artist Colbie Calliat teams up with Gavin DeGraw released the official music video for their duet song "We Both Know," to be featured in the closing credits of the upcoming Nicholas Sparks movie, "Safe Haven." The film, about a woman who is forced out of her shell and troubled past, costarring Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough, hits theaters on Valentine's Day.
While touring together this summer, Caillat and DeGraw wrote the ballad on a bus ride to Nashville. "It was an overnight drive on the bus and it all just kind of happened. It was awesome. It was magical, it was [sings] this magic moment," explained DeGraw to Billboard magazine. Caillat explained the song's meaning to CBS Local: "It's a song about a relationship where you need time apart and you get perspective on who you are as a person and who you are in the relationship," she said. "It's a beautiful ballad."
DeGraw knows meaningful lyrics and Caillat knows romantic lyrics. Their respective music is thought-provoking, and they sing what we all feel. They each have this unusual tendency to manifest the feelings of our hearts into words, and words into art. Their passion overflowed into these lyrics, giving them depth. This musical match is blissful. And this track is the musical equivalent of The Notebook. "We Both Know" hasn't been set for either artist's upcoming album yet, but both say they would like to see it on their respective future releases.
Shot in Nashville, the music video for their beautiful and soulful track "We Both Know," beautifully weaves in romantic scenes from the film as well as scenes of Caillat and DeGraw. Ths clip shows Caillat on set, sitting on a wooden floor in an off-white dress next to a can of yellow paint and a paintbrush. There's also a heart, which has been painted on the floor. DeGraw, meanwhile, showing him standing on what looks like a wooden pier.

Colbie Caillat celebrates "Christmas In the Sand"

Colbie Caillat celebrates Christmas on the beach in her recently released new video for the fun-loving Christmas track, "Christmas In the Sand," the lead single and title track from her debut Christmas album, "Christmas in the Sand."  Whether we want to admit it or not, Christmas is right here and other than gift giving and receiving, the Christmas tunes are the best part.
Having lived in sunny southern California her entire life, Caillat has quiet experienced the so-called joys of "white Christmases," the 27-year-old Malibu-born and two-time Grammy winning singer songwriter brings her easy going rhythms and breezy style to this album, which breaks from traditional (and boring) compilations in that it features four original Christmas songs and eight holiday standards. It's not the same old renditions that have been playing for 60 years, and Caillat provides a low-level musical hum that induces feelings of happiness, warmth, and joy.
Caillat told Billboard she wrote this upbeat and fun track during her vacation on a small album in Bali, "I was thinking, what do they listen to over here [Hawaii] at Christmas time? I bet they don't always want to hear songs about white Christmases and bundling up 'cause it's cold outside. They want to have a holiday song they can relate to." Caillat teamed up with frequent writing partners Kara DioGuardi and Jason Reeves to craft the bubbly and admittedly silly track, "Kara started coming up with all these funny lyrics about Santa falling off his surf board and Rudolf playing reindeer games on me," she says.
Filmed in Malibu and directed by Roman White, throughout this sunny take on a Christmas song, the lovely California girl rocks a typical California look and makes it look pretty darn appealing as she bounces around on a beach singing in a breathy voice about Santa in his bathing suit. Caillat's voice is strong, yet sweet, and the song is definitely fits to my kind of warm California Christmas. The upbeat tune of the song makes you want to sway in your seat. Her voice reminds me of fellow singer songwriter Sarah Bareilles so if you're a fan of hers you'll definitely be pleased with this album.

Colbie Caillat's "Favorite Song" Gets All Summery

Just in time for the summer, Colbie Caillat teams up with Chicago MC Common and is excited to unveil the new video to support their breezy duet single "Favorite Song," the third single from the 26-year-old Caillat's third studio album "All of You," which has been in stores since last summer. "Favorite Song" is the perfect summer jam to relax to, while Common will release his new album "The Dreamer, The Believer" on Warner Bros Records this fall.
"Favorite Song," stray from Caillat's usual sound with a sweetly strummed guitar groove, is undoubtedly bright, summery, and it is utterly charming like most of Caillat's music. Musically, the song is a guitar-driven pop, hip-hop jam, and the lyrics speak about being in love with someone and desiring that the person feels the same. The song is a metaphor for wanting to be the object of someones affection. The tune is different from Caillat's usual sound, being considered a hip-hop jam, in which Caillat croons between the rapper's slick verses, and Common's lyrics are softhearted as he tries his hand at crooning.
"I've loved Common's music for years," Caillat says of the unlikely pairing, which was put into motion when the sweet adult pop singer and gritty, intellectual rapper met each other at an event for the Grammys in 2009. "He ended up singing his song 'The Light,' and he needed a girl singer [for the chorus] and I was like, 'I know it!' Afterward he was like, "I love your song and I love your voice.' It took about a year for us to get something together, but it worked out better than we could have imagined."
The video was filmed outdoors by the beach and palm trees of Venice, California. In the video, Caillat and Common chill out on the Venice Boardwalk and enjoy a warm summer day on beach party along with some skateboarders, take over the streets and skate parks of the ocean walk. Teenagers rocked bikinis and rollerblades as Common rapped away before the sunset. Yes, the patron saint of sunshine and sandal anthems has tossed Caillat's floppy beach hat into the ring, and her platform is simple: She wants to be your favorite song.

Jason Reeves Debuts "No Lies" Ft. Colbie Caillat

Longtime friends and collaborators Jason Reeves and Colbie Caillat have finally teamed up for their duet track "No Lies" from Reeves's new album "The Lovesick," which features an "edgier" sound that showcases Reeves's unique blend of modern folk and pop sensibilities. Reeves has crafted an elegantly entrancing pop masterpiece that's as hypnotic as it is heartbreaking. Reeves pens songs with a mastery a la Bob Dylan and a sense of wonder reminiscent of Coldplay. He's made an incredible, infectious opus that anyone can feel after just one listen.
Much like the rest of the songs on "The Lovesick," "No Lies" combines folk-style guitars and Pop/Hip-Hop undertones, is one of those quintessential songs of devotion, which Reeves sings with a yearning ease. Shot in the scenic hills of Malibu and Santa Barbara, the Nathanael Matanik-directed video is a tasty-sweet ending to one long summer. The two ultimately collide on the same beach, where they exchange their letters and read them side by side, with the final frame focusing in on the duo's matching foot tattoos.
"This is the first music video Colbie and I have shot together after all these years of writing and singing together and I'm very excited about that! We went back to the places along the California coast where we wrote our first songs and used to hang out when I had just moved there from Iowa," Reeves told AOL Music. "This song has that perfect tension that makes a duet work and I love that the video is in a way a confrontation. She is my lost-girl sister and there will never be somebody with a voice quite like hers again."
"'No Lies' is my favorite song of his," Caillat also tells AOL Music. "The realness in this song opened my eyes with a wake-up call, a beautiful wake-up call. Every person has felt this way before, and should always remember to live honestly. This song even helped inspire my album title 'All Of You.' Shooting this video in my home town of Malibu, Calif. with my lost-boy brother was such a fun day. Waking up before sunrise to start shooting, eating breakfast at our favorite beach, getting in trouble by security guards... felt like kids again."

Colbie Caillat Debuts "Brighter Than The Sun"

Gearing up for the summer, Grammy winner Colbie Caillat has just introduced her bright new video for her upbeat, infectious new single "Brighter Than The Sun." The new track is the second single and follows "I Do," which hit No.1 on iTunes and comes off of the 26-year-old entertainer's upcoming third LP, "All of You," which will hit shelves and iTunes on July 12. "Yay, we released some extra tixs for my shows in LA on July 14 and San Francisco on July 15! Hope to see you guys there!!!!" Caillat wrote on her Twitter.
Co-wrote with One Republic's Ryan Tedder, the up-tempo and happy theme running through "All Of You" is the ups and downs of relationships, most significantly Caillat's boyfriend Justin Young. "He was in my band for two years before we noticed that we like each other," the Californian singer-songwriter explained. "I wrote most of this album about us, our ups and downs. All the songs are about life experiences, so I guess this record is more grown up, with a somewhat wiser perspective."
This upbeat pop song, like several others on the disc, is about the initial excitement at the beginning of a relationship. Said Caillat to PopEater: "A lot of the songs, like 'I Do' and 'Brighter Than the Sun,' are about being in love and so happy and thinking about future things with this guy." Ever the consummate pro, Caillat quickly shut down any notion that she's the type of artist to just show up and sing. She prefers to be hands-on and has a good reason for it. "I gotta be involved I mean, it's my image I'm portraying," she tells E! News.

Colbie Caillat premiered the music video for "I Do", the official lead single from the California singer's upcoming third full length, "All of You," which is slated for release on May 3. The upbeat cheery tune, was released on February 7, and it hit No.1 on iTunes store its first day. The Grammy Award-winning pop singer said "I Do" is supposed to be sort of a joke but it is hard to explain and it is about marriage.
Caillat is one of the few in the business that really radiates genuine character that is only concerned with being who she is. She hasn't been one to push new genre envelopes or try to innovate in a completely new way. Instead, she remains true to herself and this works fantastically. Caillat's music has always had a soft, supple flow and "I Do" is no exception. The three-minute track plunging in cold feet and all. Colbie Caillat Released "I Never Told You" Video

2-time Grammy winner, Colbie Caillat has released a new music video on Vh1's Top 20 Countdown for her latest single, "I Never Told You," just in time before she heads out on tour with the lovely ladies of "Lilith Fair!" "I Never Told You" is the second single, and is the follow-up to the singer's equally-lovey-dovey Top 20 hit "Fallin' For You." Both singles are featured on her sophomore album "Breakthrough," which earned a 2010 Grammy Nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.
The power pop ballad song was released in February 01, to coincide with the Valentine's Day. In "I Never Told You," Caillat reveals she still has feelings for a previous love and misses him. Caillat originally penned this song whilst touring Europe in her hotel bathroom. She told Starpulse.com: "I wrote it about someone I had broken up with that I was missing at the time." Later on the song was completed during a three week "writing camp" in Hawaii that Caillat organized with fellow singer/songwriter Jason Reeves and American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. The song has been already a moderate success on the Adult Pop Songs, staying for seven weeks, and reaching thirteen, so far.
There is no naughtiness in Caillat's "I Never Told You" Video. "Fallin' For You" is the first single from Colbie Caillat's upcoming sophomore album "Breakthrough" set for August 25 release. The pop-ballad song was released today in the US. Colbie explained to Elle that the song is "about falling for a guy I was friends with. We went out on a date and I realized that there was no one else in the room. The room was silent, and I was on this high from it the next day and wrote this song."
Colbie debuted in 2007 with "Coco", which included hit singles "Bubbly", "Realize", and "The Little Things"; She recorded a cover of the song "Kiss the Girl" from The Little Mermaid for Disney's DisneyMania vol.6 CD in May 2008; and also released a song and video for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics called "Somethin' Special" in August 2008.

"Fallin' For You" is honestly a very simple and mellow song. It really is quite relaxing, and follows well from the strength her other hits like "Bubbly" and her recent duet "Lucky" with Jason Mraz have score. I am very eager to see if Colbie's next record can shine just as well as she can sparkle. When it has came down it, there are honestly very few singers right now that simply touch you in the heart, that aren't all about gimmicks or fancy gloss, just a simple voice of the soul. Colbie has honestly has been one of those few. Since she broke out a couple of years ago with "Coco", she has really made great strides as a singer/songwriter.

Colbie Caillat was born May 28, 1985 in California. "Realize" is the 2nd single from her debut album, "Coco" and was officially released today. The song is an acoustic folk-pop song, where Colbie sings of having feelings for a best friend. Allmusic said "she sings about simple, everyday things in an unassuming manner, letting her melodies and girl-next-door charm carry the day".

The video was filmed in Canada. Colbie and her best friend both left a note for each other, and the two discover that neither is home, and slip their notes under each others doors. Instead of leaving, the friend decides to sit and wait at Colbie's door, and Colbie is shown arriving as the two exchange smiles.

I'm pretty like Colbie's singing style, and have a lot of favorite singles: Battle, Bubbly, Capri, Feelings Show, Kiss The Girl, Magic, Mistletoe, Older, Onde Fire Wire, Oxygen, Tailor Made and The Little Things.
