Melanie Fiona Empowers In "Watch Me Work"

Melanie Fiona drops off a surprise in the form of a unusual and pretty outrageous visual for her latest track "Watch Me Work." The cut is a funky midtempo taken from Fiona' sophomore effort, "The MF Life," a soulful, very mature project that really establishes Fiona as one of the leading voices in soul music, and the video is even funkier.
The 28-year-old Canadian artist's "The MF Life" is fantastic and deserves to cross over much more than it has, and the uptempo "Watch Me Work" is styled in soul and downright exuberant. The song delivers a message that inspires women to celebrate who they are and the clip ends with Fiona's signature line "Live Your MF Life." That album is not getting nearly enough press as it should, which might explain why the "Watch Me Work" video is a well-baited Internet hook.
Captivating with stunning visuals of movie and television clips that depict women being badasses, the R&B songstress tries to convey women empowerment message to her female fan base with the sassy new single, and showcases some of Hollywood's most notorious heroines and brings new meaning to the term kickass female. It's fast-paced, eye-catching and a fantastic bit of curation, while the singer sings the song to the camera, clippings of movie clips featuring female stars kicking ass are flashed on the screen.
Uma Thurman' "Kill Bill" and Angelina Jolie' "Wanted" are among the movie characters honored by Fiona as icons who inspired her generation. There's also more explicitly political stuff–toward the middle comes a quote from The Black Power Mixtape, and the video leads with this Margaret Cho quote: "If you are a woman, if you're a person of color, if you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, if you are a person of size, if you are a person of intelligence, if you are a person of integrity, then you are considered a minority in this world."
