Coldplay Released A Festive "Christmas Lights"

British alternative rock band Coldplay have unveiled the video on Wednesday for their exclusive special festive single, "Christmas Lights," released as a digital download, just in time for the holiday season, and bringing fans some holiday cheer. As previously reported, Coldplay revealed that the cheese-o-riffic new single is "in the key of G", before adding that they hoped fans "have a great Christmas and holidays." The mid-tempo track was originally thought that "Christmas Lights" would be a song from their upcoming fifth studio album, which explains why "Christmas" lights is so mellow, and not the gigantic, sweeping, Hot AC rock that they usually release.
Gwyneth Paltrow isn't the only member of the Paltrow-Martin family to make the holiday season more musical - Coldplay's new Christmas single and it's video was (seemingly) shot in one take. But that's not the most interesting part - we'd say the Elvis string quartet floating in the background nabs that honor. Though it's a Christmas song it still has that Coldplay sound, with the lead vocalist Chris Martin providing his trademark smooth vocals. The track is now available on iTunes.
The Mat Whitecross-directed video, from the colorful piano to the the "waves" and the balloons to fireworks, which was shot on the South Bank of the River Thames on last Thursday (November 25) in London. It begins with the start up of a record player, and the camera pans across a self-playing piano, and then the four members of the band, wherein Martin begins to sing the first verse. The camera pans back to the piano, and Martin has changed his position, the rest of the band nowhere to be seen. He then begins to play the piano, which is now on a stage in front of the Thames. The band play the rest of the song, accompanied with fireworks and violin-playing Elvises. 100 fans of the band also appear in the music video, where they release balloons on a boat on the Thames whilst singing along to part of the song.
with the moving water, dropping confetti, the rockets, stars and a dream-like world in the backdrop of an old time theater. The new video is definitely a lot more whimsical than the song itself. This new sweeping Christmas tune "Christmas Lights," is a reminder why Coldplay is at their best with simple Production and a nice Melody. It's tender and just wonderful. It's not what we were expecting, but it is always great to hear new music from Coldplay. Hopefully that new album comes out sooner rather than later!
