Wakey!Wakey! Unveils Video For "Light Outside"

Brooklyn-based band Wakey!Wakey! and The Family Records released the music video for "Light Outside," one of my favorite tunes off their extraordinary sophomore LP, "Almost Everything I Wish I'd Said The Last Time I Saw You" last month. The beautifully filmed video stirs you to action, and has an expected emotional appeal and was, interestingly enough, co-directed by the actors in the video, Andrew and Carissa Gallo of VsTheBrain.
"Light Outside" is a really beautiful song that combines so many nice music elements including Piano, Violin, Bass and Drums to create a wonderful sound. The song starts out with a really cool piano part combined with the powerful voice of the lead singer, Mike Grubbs. Aside from playing everyone's favorite musically-inclined bartender on The CW's "One Tree Hill," Grubbs is also the frontman of Brooklyn chamber pop outfit Wakey!Wakey! in real life.
I think we all could write some great material if we poured out our hearts about something we regretted not saying to someone that we cared about. "Light Outside" are one of the songs that have a sad undertone to them, and the sad ones are what really pull me in. The video is also got a nice build up and a pretty sweet. Grubbs's voice is like a smoke alarm in the dead of night: huge, dominant, unable to be ignored, maybe even life-saving. His singing commanded the room, but his songs resonated for more reasons than just the one. If you have ever been broken by love, the lyrics will tear at your heartstrings, yet leave you wanting more.
Speaking of standing out, Wakey!Wakey! made their presence known over the past couple years by finding a perfect balance between crowd-pleasing pop and art-damaged indie rock. Wakey!Wakey! are bringing their ever-impressive live show to The Bowery Ballroom on May 20 for a headlining show. Grubbs also will be doing weekly live performance streams on Facebook on Mondays at 8 PM, up through May 17.
