Scotty McCreery Debuts “I Love You This Big”

American Idol winner Scotty McCreery debuted the bare-bones clip for his coronation song "I Love You This Big" on his website on Monday night, and it finds him earnestly singing the midtempo tune as his band sets up behind him in a Los Angeles park. This sweeping country ballad is his debut single, and was sung as his coronation song during the finale of the 10th season of American Idol. The perfect summer country tune is about being young and falling in love, and was released immediately after the show's finale.
McCreery's run on Idol was indeed ballad heavy, but luckily his uptempo numbers were sprinkled throughout this Idol compilation. The youngest male "Idol" winner McCreery told MTV News the song is a perfect fit for him. McCreery makes a statement about who he is by not making a love connection of his own in his debut music video for "I Love You This Big," which features the North Carolina teen belting out the song in a crowded park on a beautiful day, as everyone around smiles, waves, holds hands, braids hair and generally basks in the glow of the love that is all around in front of a firework-lit summer-night sky.
"This is pretty insane," the Mercury Nashville artist said of how he felt about having his first-ever music video. "All the hard work has been put into this and now I'm sitting here doing my first music video. It's just a really cool thing to finally be here." Talking about what to expect from the clip, he gushed, "This is going to be kind of a nice little chill, summertime barbecue, kind of like a community thing on the Fourth of July. It's just a really fun thing that we're all just kind of chilling - that's the word for this music video - 'chilling'."
In fact, the Shane Drake-directed video concept doesn't stray far from the crooner's country heart, as all of the ladies quickly find men in the audience. When they connect, fireworks start to crackle behind McCreery on the stage, illuminating the show and giving the music video a true summer feel. The trademark head-tilt, squinted eyes and big voice that made fans vote for him in drones haven't gone anywhere. The 17-year-old deep-voiced country crooner hopes to follow in the footsteps of past Idol winners.
