Tamar Kaprelian Driving Through In "California"

Tamar Kaprelian recently dropped the music video for her latest single, “California,” the the lead single and title track off her new five-track debut EP, a sun-soaked song shot through with summery wistfulness, and sparkles with an independent artist feel, released in June, two years after her successful debut album, "Sinner Or A Saint," which is real and true to her, both personally and artistically. The new clip follows Kaprelian through the classic journey out of the desert and into sacred California.
The piano prodigy with the soft siren voice has been in the music scene since her song “New Day” was featured on MTV's "The Hills." Kaprelian says she's taken much inspiration from Billy Joel and Paul McCartney and aims for "thought-provoking, hopeful, playful, and honest songs." The 25-year-old independent artist is now at Columbia University studying political science and creative writing.
"California" is a breezy tune with Kaprelian driving around parts of California and walking in the desert in flats but making sure she rocks the high heels in the bedroom. Kaprelian explained: "It's about trying to lure someone to move somewhere for you because you're in love with them, and what better place to live than a place that's always beautiful, always sunny and always puts you in a great mood." The song adds that personality that only a smaller label can allow, and gave Kaprelian the opportunity to shine creatively and the result is a combination of well written, catchy and fun pop songs.
In the brand-new video, Kaprelian takes a quintessential top-down drive in a vintage convertible, strolls through an abandoned field with wind in her hair, and cools off with an afternoon dip in the type of pool that could only exist in California, all while trying to convince a dude to join her out West. Some more adorable dresses and an unexpected, but impressive harmonica solo break later, the clip comes to a close with the sun setting on Kaprelian, who's still en route to California, sans companion. It's a picture-perfect postcard of the Golden State, which she recently left to study at Columbia University in New York.
