In an interview with MTV, Gomez spoke of the title track and second single, "A Year Without Rain", saying, "It's basically one of my favorite songs on the record, um, and it's kind of got a more feel-good, dance beat feel, I love it." The plaintive "A Year Without Rain" may be more subdued, but its beauty impressed Gomez enough to make it the title track. "When I got the song, I went through the roof," she recalls. "Everybody has that one person they can't live without. It was exactly what I wanted to say." Having her own band has been a comfort for Gomez as she hits the road with "A Year Without Rain."

That's exactly what she delivers in "A Year Without Rain." Gomez kept to a more quickened tempo, exploring themes of love, freedom and the joy of living for the moment.
